Hydrangea Hideaway
Molly was a very soppy sort of dog, a retriever through and through
She wouldn’t retrieve a ball even though she was expected to
She didn’t like to be far from her humans and watched them very closely
She got a lot of fuss but had the rest of the day to herself mostly
Her favourite place to be was cosy and warm in her bed
But when the sun was shining, she would explore the garden instead
One night there was deafening thunder and lightning struck all night
Molly was terrified and didn’t sleep a wink shaking with fright
The next morning, she felt exhausted and looked for a good place to lay down
She crawled under a huge hydrangea knowing it would be cool ground
Relaxing, she felt safe here hiding under the giant purple blooms
With heavy eyes she spotted something moving behind a mushroom
It was covered in little prickles and shuffling feet that slowly came close
It had a sweet little face full of kindness and a very tiny wet nose
She welcomed Molly into her hiding place, sensing she didn’t want to be alone
Safe under the canopy of shiny big leaves and flowers overgrown
Molly was thankful for the storm, as she had made her new friend today
They spent the afternoon chatting and snoozing in their hydrangea hideaway
