Rufus and the Robin
Early each morning Rufus would trundle down the garden path
His daily routine included a visit to the stone birdbath
For Rufus loved to drink the dirtiest of water you see
He didn’t mind it was green and had floating leaves from trees
He would then sit by the old wooden bench and quietly wait
A flutter of wings told him Robin was close by on the gate
His little friend swooped down and sang him a greeting
Rufus smiled for he enjoyed their little morning meetings
They talked of all the garden news and who was doing what
Apparently, Mr Toad had got himself stuck under a flower pot
“Same time tomorrow Robin” Rufus waved and headed for the kitchen
Barking happily, he bounded inside smelling a bowl of tasty chicken
