Honey is a sweet cocker spaniel and gentle soul
Getting fuss and ear rubs wherever she goes
A creature of habit she likes to know where to be
As the clock chimes six, she is sat waiting patiently
For this is when mummy will come through the door
Kicking off her heels as she drops her bag on the floor
Honey’s tail wags as she watches her pull on her wellies
For the evening walk is even better than filling her belly
An hour of running around the field feeling wild and free
Then back home to snuggle in her bed as content as can be

Bella yawns for she has seen her fair share of Christmas days
At the grand old age of 14 she’s rather settled in her old ways
The love she feels has never dwindled in the passing of the years
Her family smother her with cuddles and love the sweet dears
The kitchen floor is worn in the patch that she likes to settle herself
Snoozing with one eye open always watching the biscuit tin shelf
A pair of reindeer slippers move around her with practiced ease
She never has to move for they are only too keen to please
Sleepily she watches the glow of the oven with the festive bird inside
Delicious aromas fill her nose and her brown eyes grow wide
Her favourite bowl is coming out so it’s almost time for the treat
A bowl full of Christmas Day turkey succulent and tender meat
Most of her teeth are gone but she will manage all the same
Bending down her head is kissed and they softly say her name
After dinner she stiffly moves into the living room to get comfy by the fire
It’s time for a Christmas day sleep as the radio faintly plays a choir
Puppies are always great fun and make for a lively fun household
But it’s the grey haired and senior loved ones that are worth more than gold

Happily dozing in her big comfy bed, Dottie heard the keys jingle in the front door
Excitedly she pads down the hallway to greet her human as shopping bags drop to the floor
“DOTTIE!” comes the usual welcome, “come here sweetheart. Look what I have just for you.”
Sniffing excitedly, she hopes for a treat, so she sits on her bottom and waits for a chew
As a pair of red antlers came out of the shopping bag Dottie isn’t sure how she feels about this.
She is ushered over to the table into position and her wet nose gets a kiss
From her humans’ squeals of pleasure, she guessed it was best to follow along
A cake tin is removed from the cupboard amidst happy humming of a Christmas song
Dottie wags her tail as a mince pie is placed in front of her and she is told to wait
She barely notices as the ridiculous antlers are placed on her head
Flash, Flash goes the camera “look at Mummy! Yes, that’s right there now HOLD”
I can smell the pastry. Mmm thinks Dottie “NO, you licked your lips, stop moving!” she is told
Fidgeting, how many more is she going to take? Dottie’s bum starts to slide off the chair
I’m seeing stars from the flash..”that’s it! Now hold it right THERE”
FLASH! “Wait” she says, “wait, hold it, ah that one’s blurred” as Dottie starts to drool
“Hang on the antlers slipped”, help me thinks Dottie I can’t last much longer on this stool
As the aroma of spices tickle her senses Dottie leans a little closer
“Ah you blinked. Just one more. That’s it you’re mummies perfect little poser!”
Dottie doesn’t think she can sit still much longer, her paws are slipping
that’s the last mince pie, perfectly dusted with icing, her tongue starts dripping
The kids will come in any moment. What if they took her well-earned prize?
Dottie made her mind up and suddenly dived across the table for her prize
Her mouth full of crumbly pleasure animal instincts, after all, teach you to survive
Leaving cries behind her she ran down the hall and jumped back into her comfy bed
I love Christmas, thought Dottie, the festive pair of antlers still half dangling from her head

Mr Snuffles loved to be in the kitchen where he didn’t miss a thing
From his spot on the windowsill, he watched as Lily started to sing
It was her baking day today which he enjoyed most immensely
As she weighed out all her ingredients, he watched her intensely
Her rolling pin glided up and down over the pastry growing nice and flat
Little puffs of flour billowed in the air dusting this and that
He leaned in close to get a better look wiggling his little pink nose
He sniffed some flour which made him sneeze blowing the flour from his toes
She filled the pastry parcels with juicy currents and spice
Carefully she glazed them and they were into the oven in a trice
From the fridge a bag rustled and Mr Snuffles ears pricked up
She carried a bag of fat round green balls; he couldn’t believe his luck!
It was only September but could it really be his favourite snack?
He started hopping through the flour and slid down her back
He pulled at her apron strings excitedly with his long teeth
She nearly tripped over him as he bounded round her feet
She tipped a good serving of sprouts into a bowl and set it on the floor
Glancing at the golden pastries gently rising through the oven door
Smiling at him happily munching his treat as she put away the butter
Its never too early for sprouts he thought as he settled down to his supper

The streets are full of shoppers rushing to and fro
Frantically ticking off lists with one more night to go
For those who are escaping their bags are now packed
Presents sitting under Christmas trees beautifully wrapped
Streamers are dangling and balloons have been hung
There will be dancing and laughing and all kinds of fun
Champagne is fizzing and work can now be ignored
Its time to pop the corks and bring out the cheeseboard
So, put on your dancing shoes and raise your glass of wine
Tis the season, yes, we earned it! Let’s declare it party time!

Lays a little hedgehog as snuggled warm as can be
The cold winter wind whistles as he softly sleeps

As the inky midnight sky twinkles with a thousand stars
Silver frost creeps silently over the fields and hedgerows
The frosty moon hangs quietly watching from afar
Soundly asleep he twitches his feet and tiny nose

He is dreaming of a magically white Christmas
A joyful day of feasting to be enjoyed by all
The majestic barn owl glides silently past overhead
As little hedgehog sleeps on delicate snowflakes being to fall..

The ancient radio crackles with a voice reading the evening news
Alfie looks up as his master, sat in his worn armchair having a snooze
So many Christmases they have spent together, an old trusty pair
Never leaving each other’s side, so many memories they now share
The Radio Times slides off his lap silently crumpled in a heap
The visitors have all gone home not much to do now but sleep
Piles of new socks and ginger biscuits have been gratefully received
Alfie had some chews and a new toy thrown and retrieved
The grandchildren played games and enjoyed bright jelly sweets
From the old jar grandpa keeps on the shelf filled with their treats
Alfie stretched in his bed and gently nudged the mans’ slipper
He was too old to tear it apart like he used to as a young nipper
The man woke and stared at him with a knowing smile on his face
“You want to play old boy?” He asked, looking around for something to throw
Alife picked up a cracker and held one end gently with a bow
The man chuckled and agreed, you are never too old to pull a Christmas cracker
It’s the way it makes you feel young again at Christmas, that truly matters
So, treasure the time you have with your family and your friends
Make special memories with all your loved ones and make those amends.

Charlie is a schnauzer dog, so is rather particular in his ways
His human runs a market stall so that’s how they spend their days
He looks around the little market town with people bustling in groups
Charlie watches people queuing up for steaming bowls of pumpkin soup
Fairy lights twinkle along the shop windows showing all the goods inside
The evening air is crisp, people wrapped up warm quickening their stride
Ladies with knitted gloves walk past clutching mugs of hot chocolate drink
Filled to the brim with pink and white marshmallows slowing starting to sink
Christmas is fast approaching; trees are decorated and shops are full to the brim
People balancing bags, rushing to find their special gifts before the holidays begin
Dozens of winter boots walk past Charlie crunching the snow that’s falling down
Charlie cocks his ear at the church choir carols, a beautiful festive sound
The smell of roasted chestnuts and mince pies mingle in the frosty air
Market traders happily filling baskets with their puddings and festive wares
A pork pie falls out of a ladies’ basket rolling towards Charlie licking his lips
Well, it’s only fair, he thinks, that a market dog gets the occasional tip
Snowflakes are falling thickly now as the little church bells softly ring
He looks at the smiling faces and the Christmassy happiness they bring
So come down to the market and get in the Christmas spirit with pride
But be sure to wrap up warm, cos baby it’s really cold outside!
