Dorothy Brown grew up on Honeysuckle Farm many years ago
She was always known locally for her keen ability to sew
However, these days, she has secret folk who lend a hand
Over the years she befriended the talented sewing mice clan

They live in the old wooden beams of the creaky attic
And occasionally help Mrs Brown with other chores domestic
But it is the sewing room they consider their true paradise
Stitching and mending is the most favourite task for the mice

Emily scampers here and there, busily organising all the cottons
While Alice jumps around in the baskets finding the right bobbins
Daphne scurries, carrying the ribbons, on her soft padded feet
Hazel straightens the measuring tape, she like to keep things neat

After a long and busy day, they find that their work is complete
Mrs Brown thanks them kindly and says its time for a treat
Cheese is passed around as they sew the last button holes
Mrs Brown heads to the kitchen to check on her bubbling casserole

Hazel rubs her fluffy belly, now nicely full of crumbly cheese
Emily giggles at her sisters as she rolls up all the cotton reels
The others all dive in the bobbin basket playing hide and seek
Happily, they play until bedtime with contented little squeaks

From Honeysuckle Cottage a mechanic whirring sound came
An old sewing machine was rattling the window panes
Mrs Brown was working late into the night
She was trying to finish a project before morning light
But her eyes grew tired and she was making mistakes
Sighing, she yawned and stretched her back ache
Fighting back frustrated tears she reached for the thread
And found herself looking into a pair of beady eyes instead
For there on a cotton reel as sweet as can be
Was a fluffy little mouse staring at her curiously
Mrs Brown remembered her manners and asked “how do you do?”
“Very well, thank you” squeaked the mouse, “so nice to meet you”
“We normally frighten people away, even though mice are very nice”
She hopped down and wiped Mrs Browns glasses in a trice
With her dainty pink paws, she threaded the tiny needle with ease
Mrs Brown clapped her hands, she was so very pleased
The little mouse scurried about as Mrs Brown slept silently on
Until the first warm rays awoke her gently with the golden dawn
“Oh my!” She exclaimed at the sight on her desk
“I hope you don’t mind”, the mouse smiled “but I finished the rest”
Mrs Brown admired the beautiful stiches and delicately made bows
“My pleasure” beamed the little mouse, “for I really do love to sew”
Mrs Brown gently carried the mouse to the kitchen
“Time for a spot of breakfast” she smiled as she warmed the teapot
She quickly served up buttered toast pouring the mouse a thimble of tea
“What a great team we make, cheers to little you and me!”

Dorothy had enjoyed a busy afternoon of sewing, feeling rather inspired
She switched off the old sewing machine, now feeling nicely tired
She shuffled in her fluffy pink slippers heading downstairs
When all was quiet, a little mouse hopped onto Dorothy’s chair
Mrs Buttons favourite place was the sewing room, a crafters paradise
She was particularly partial to the button collection, so shiny and nice
Every evening she would scamper around tidying bobbins and thread
Quietly working, while Dorothy slept peacefully in her old bed
She gently folded the lace and packed away the colourful pins
Being carefully not to disturb things being firmly held in place
She rolled the cotton reels until they were organised and neat
Padding softly and swiftly on her tiny padded pink feet
She loved the smoothness of the buttons in all of their hues
The traditional wooden ones and the antique greens and blues
Carefully, she places them back in their tin with pleasure
Closing the antique lid on her little box of treasures
As the morning sun starts to rise she can hear the robin
Singing his dawn song as she polishes the bobbins
She stands back to admire the spotless work station
All spick and span ready for a new day of craft and creation
With a friendly wave to the robin she has done all her chores
Time for bed, she disappears silently behind the skirting boards

The old vintage sewing machine whirred and hummed
For many years it had worked tirelessly on the jobs to be done
In the loving care of old Mrs Brown of Honeysuckle Farm
In an old yellow cottage covered in flowery country charm
As the years rolled by, she had trouble with her sight
So, she welcomed in the help of the resident sewing mice
They were only too happy to help out and sew
There wasn’t anything to do under the floorboards below
The sewing room offered them so much to fix and mend
Today, Mrs Brown had new work trousers that needed a hem
Audrey, the head mouse, was overseeing a new trainee
Matilda was a young mouse with a little too much energy
When Audrey wasn’t looking, she snuck off to play
She pulled out all the ribbons, causing a few to fray
“Woohoo!” she cried, swinging wildly from the hand wheel
“Stop that”, warned Audrey as Matilda rolled over on a cotton reel
“There’s just so much to try!” she squealed “and it’s fun”!
Mrs Brown chuckled remembering how it felt to be that young
Audrey rolled her eyes and dodge a rolling thimble
“Get back here Matilda and make yourself useful!”

Olive and Lottie are very busy little mice
They are part of a sewing bee who are incredibly nice
Skilled with a needle they can fix things in a trice
With the most delicate stitching so neat and precise
They live in the skirting boards, all cosy and warm
Each morning they rise early ready to preform
Their sewing skills are exceptional with a needle and thread
Old Mrs Brown leaves them to do the work instead
Each night she puts out any jobs to be done
Lottie mouse is always the first to work before anyone
She gathers up the scissors, pins, needles and lace
Rummaging through fabric starting to pin things in place
Olive arrives and starts to pull out all the elastic
She is a young eager mouse who thinks sewing is fantastic
Finding the fun in her work rolling out the cotton reels
Bouncing on the pin cushion high in the air she squeals
Scampering on little feet they cut and they measure
The hours soon fly by with how well they work together
At the end of the day little Olive can’t wait to climb
Up onto the hand wheel for a swing and a wheely good time!
